Not Above Evil: Beginnings

It has been a long six months. On February 2016, my camera failed on me whilst photographing a show. Many attempts to re-work the machine and getting quotes has lead to taking a hard decision. It was a challenge being away from the scene that I love. It was quiet, sometimes dark. I even had to miss a fair few worthy shows. However, it did not stop me from saving up for brand new camera gear.

Six months has passed and with my new arsenal, the lads of Not Above Evil had kindly invited me to take a few photos for their press kit and rehearsal at their Noise Boy Studios space for their upcoming release, "Always Darkest Above". We used areas outside and inside of the music studio for the press shots whilst we took the practice into rehearsal space. Mind you, it was dark when we walked in! At least we came in prepared. The studio provided a few halogen floodlights to illuminate the room and took it from there. I even had my first try on filming some of the rehearsal, which a video will be released at a later date.

For the press photos, I used my one light set up that consisted of the Elinchrom Quadra A light, one air-cushion stand and a Elinchrom Rotalux 100cm Octabox to mold the harsh light from the sun. My weapons for the photos were Nikon D750 camera body [I do have a second body but I didn't bring it with me] and the lenses Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 & Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8. It made my workflow a lot easier and the photos turned out great with minimal editing. The lads seem to like it too :) This was done before my second assignment, the wicked Bloodstock Festival! My mojo hadn't left me. It was worth the six month wait.

The Metal Mass: Bloodstock Festival 2016 Highlights

Today is World Photography Day. When you look at it, so much has changed on how the world views life. When it is just for a few seconds with a press of a button, it sets for a lifetime. So, I thought, what better way to mark the occasion by displaying the world of Bloodstock Festival through my photography.

Every year, this little magnificent festival has brought together fresh memories, old and new faces, laughter, joy and the greatest music for the metal mass to relish. This year was no different. We rejoice. We celebrate. We throw our horns together. No qualms from reality. To be asked to cover the festival officially for the second year was truly an honour and it has made my trepidation with my craft ease. I miss the place already and it's only a week! There are so many people to thank who made the weekend memorable, meeting loads of fellow minions and to keep my sanity in check from all the fire and smoke ;)

I love everything about Bloodstock Festival. Same again next year? You bet I'll be there! What's on the horizon? We'll wait as a new story unfolds. Come what may, I can't wait to do this all over again. Bring on 2017!
